I stopped a few feet in front of Adrian, looking down at him with a calm, icy composure that chilled him to the bone.
“You told me earlier tonight that I didn’t fit into your new circle, Adrian,” I said, my voice carrying clearly across the silent ballroom. “You said I was trash. You burned my dress because you thought I was an embarrassment to your new title as Vice President of Operations.”
Adrian’s knees wobbled. “Clara… please… I didn’t know… I was just… it was a mistake! I swear, I didn’t mean any of it!”
“Seven years ago, I gave up my luxury to see if a man could love me for who I was, without my family’s billions,” I continued, stepping closer as the elite crowd watched in stunned silence. “I worked three jobs so you could pass your exams. I sacrificed my youth, my comfort, and my dreams so you could build yours. And the moment you achieved a fraction of success, you threw me away like garbage.”
“Clara, please!” Adrian fell to his knees right there on the polished marble floor, completely unconcerned with his dignity, tears springing to his eyes as desperation overtook him. “I love you! I was confused! Please, give me another chance! We’re married!”
