I backed away from the tub.
“No. No, that’s not possible.”
I left the bathroom without explaining.
“Claire?”
I ran down the hallway and into my bedroom.
At the back of my jewelry safe was a small velvet pouch I hadn’t opened in years.
Inside was a thin brass bracelet.
It wasn’t valuable.
One side had turned green with age.
Attached to it was a tiny photograph, folded twice.
My mother and me.
