I stared.
“What is?”
Walter swallowed.
“Chloe found out.”
My body went cold.
“When?”
“Three months ago.”
I stared.
“She knows you forged Samuel’s signature?”
“Yes.”
“And she said nothing?”
Walter shook his head.
“No.”
“She threatened to tell him.”
I frowned.
“Then why didn’t she?”
He looked away.
“Because I convinced her not to.”
“How?”
Silence.
“Walter.”
“I told her Samuel would lose his professional license if the fraud surfaced.”
I stared.
“That’s a lie.”
“Yes.”
My chest tightened.
“You threatened her with Samuel’s career.”
“I was desperate.”
“And she believed you.”
“Yes.”
Something inside me broke.
I had spent months suspecting Chloe of betrayal.
Meanwhile, she had been protecting my son from his own father.
I asked,
“What else?”
