Three Days After My Wedding, My Mother-in-Law Walked Into My Condo With a List of Rules—By Nightfall, the Police Were Removing Her and My Husband

“Ma’am, do you need medical attention?”

“Yes.”

Evan stepped forward.

“She’s upset. There was an accident.”

Ramirez raised a hand.

“I’m speaking to her.”

Evan stopped.

Linda immediately interrupted.

“She got aggressive with me.”

The second officer looked at her.

“How?”

“She started screaming. She knocked into the coffee.”

I almost admired the speed of the lie.

Almost.

Officer Ramirez asked:

“Who owns the residence?”

“I do.”

Evan answered at the same time.

“We’re married.”

Ramirez looked between us.

I handed him the deed.

“I bought the condo six years before I met him.”

He checked my identification.

Then the document.

Then looked at Evan.

“Sir, she is asking you to leave.”

Evan stared.

“I live here.”

“You have been married three days?”

“Yes.”

“Do you have independent tenancy documentation?”

“No, but—”

“You’ll need to collect essentials and leave while this gets sorted out.”

Linda screamed.

“This is unbelievable!”
