Three Days After My Wedding, My Mother-in-Law Walked Into My Condo With a List of Rules—By Nightfall, the Police Were Removing Her and My Husband

“Is this a joke?”

Linda’s smile disappeared.

“No.”

“Then take it home.”

Her face hardened.

“You’re married now.”

“I’m aware.”

“You can’t live like a single nb woman anymore.”

I glanced around.

“This is my condo.”

Evan sighed.

“Rachel, don’t make this into a thing.”

I turned toward him.

“Your mother brought me rules for living in my own home.”

“She’s trying to help.”

“No. She’s trying to run my home.”

Linda stood.

“Young women today are so obsessed with ownership.”

I laughed.

“Well, when my name is literally on the deed, ownership tends to come up.”

Her eyes narrowed.

“Your condo became part of my son’s household when you married him.”

“That is not how property law works.”

“You think a piece of paper makes you more important than your husband?”

“No.”

I looked at her list.

“But it definitely makes this place mine.”

For a few seconds, nobody moved.

Then Linda reached for the metal coffee carafe beside the stove.

It was filled with coffee I had made minutes earlier.

She picked it up.

“I was trying to show you how a proper family functions.”

“I didn’t ask.”

Her expression twisted.
