During that conversation with Dr. Ross, Grant mentioned a woman.
Sabrina Cole.
I knew Sabrina.
Everyone in my life knew Sabrina.
She worked as a brand consultant Grant had hired for one of his side projects.
She had attended our Christmas dinner.
She had brought champagne to our anniversary party.
She had sent me maternity clothes.
At my baby shower, she had placed both hands on my belly and told me motherhood looked beautiful on me.
And according to Grant, she was five months pregnant with his child.
He had been building another family while taking photographs in my nursery.
And apparently, I was the only obstacle left between him and the life he wanted.
Part Three — Forty Minutes of Pretending
At 3:41 a.m., Rachel texted me.
Police have the recording. Hospital administration has been contacted. Do not sign anything Grant gives you. Do not accept medication until a new medical team is confirmed.
Then:
Miles is with me. He is furious, but he is listening.
I almost smiled.
Getting Miles to listen when he was angry was an accomplishment.
Another message appeared.
A detective and senior administrator are coming to you shortly after six. Behave normally until then.
Normally.
I stared at the word.
How does a woman behave normally beside the husband who believes she will be dead before dinner?
At five-thirty, Grant woke in the visitor recliner.
