Andrés swallowed hard, glancing nervously toward Verónica. The confidence he had displayed just minutes prior had completely evaporated, replaced by visible panic.
“We… we can explain all of that in my office, Dr. Salgado,” Verónica said rapidly, looking around at the watching crowd and noticing Lucía’s phone pointed directly at them. “This is not something that should be discussed in the public lobby.”
“On the contrary,” Mariana replied, raising her head high. “Transparency begins right here. You were comfortable humiliating a visitor in front of everyone in this room. You should be equally comfortable answering for your administrative practices in the same space.”
At that moment, the double doors of the main entrance pushed open, and three individuals dressed in formal corporate suits entered the building, accompanied by two independent forensic auditors carrying locked briefcases. They were Mariana’s specialized audit team, whom she had instructed to wait outside until she gave the signal.
“Good afternoon, team,” Mariana said, turning toward them. “Please secure all terminal access, freeze the executive management accounts, and initiate a full audit of all transaction logs for this branch starting immediately.”
The auditors moved swiftly past the counter, entering the back offices to execute the directive without hesitation. The rest of the bank staff watched in absolute silence, completely stunned by the rapid turn of events.
Mariana turned back to Andrés Luján and Verónica Rivas.
“Effective immediately, both of you are suspended from your duties pending the outcome of the financial investigation,” Mariana announced calmly. “Your access credentials to the bank’s network have already been revoked. Security will accompany you to your offices so you can gather your personal belongings, after which you will be escorted from the premises.”
Andrés stood frozen, his mouth slightly open, unable to comprehend how his morning had collapsed so entirely. Verónica attempted to say something in her defense, but when she met Mariana’s unwavering gaze, she realized there was nothing left to say. The security guard, who had previously been ordered to remove Mariana, now turned respectfully toward Andrés and Verónica, gesturing toward the office corridor.
As the disgraced managers walked slowly down the hallway under the watchful eyes of staff and customers alike, a quiet murmur swept through the lobby. Lucía, still broadcasting live, turned her phone back toward herself, her eyes wide with amazement as she addressed her stream.
“You guys saw that, right?” Lucía whispered into her microphone, holding up her phone so her screen showed over ten thousand live viewers commenting in real-time. “She was the boss the whole time!”
Mariana walked over to the young teller who had initially taken her order at the counter. The young woman looked nervous, holding her hands together tightly.
“What is your name?” Mariana asked softly, her expression softening completely.
” Sofia, ma’am,” the teller answered hesitantly.
“Sofia, from now on, every person who steps through those doors is to be greeted with the exact same level of respect, care, and attention, regardless of what they are wearing or how much money they intend to deposit,” Mariana said gentle but firmly. “Are we clear?”
“Yes, Dr. Salgado. Absolutely clear,” Sofia replied, nodding earnestly.
Mariana nodded in approval, turning to face the rest of the lobby. The heavy, cold atmosphere that had filled the building earlier seemed to vanish, replaced by a renewed sense of order and justice. Mariana knew that fixing the corporate culture across the entire network would take time, effort, and uncompromising dedication, but as she looked around the transformed branch, she knew that the change had officially begun.
