More convenience.
Marissa stopped saying:
“When I finish school…”
And started saying:
“Maybe someday.”
Eventually, even that disappeared.
After meeting Caleb Warren, I realized we had built a marriage where Marissa’s safety depended almost entirely on me continuing to earn.
I tried mentioning school.
Once.
She immediately asked:
“Are we having money problems?”
“No.”
“Then why would I go back now?”
I laughed.
Changed the subject.
That was my mistake.
Instead of talking like a husband, I started researching like a manager.
I contacted schools.
Asked about transfer credits anonymously.
Compared programs.
Calculated how much tuition we could cover without debt.
Researched updated design software.
I even contacted one of her former instructors.
Then I planned to surprise her.
I told myself it would be romantic.
A gift.
A path back to herself.
Instead, I hid the folder because every time I thought about bringing it up, I worried she would think I was dissatisfied with her.
So I waited.
And waited.
Until Northcrest Solutions closed.
