My sister kissed my husband in front of thirty people at her own anniversary party and called it a joke. Her husband had a wrapped present in his hands and an envelope she had never opened.

He rang his wife’s sister, once, because he did not know what else to do with it.

And his wife’s sister told him he was being unfair, and got off the phone, and did not think about it again.

Because thinking about it would have meant looking at my own husband, who had been having a word with her since 2016.

PART 5 — THE DRAWER

Callan and I separated in the November.

It started in the June of last year. Eight months, not eleven years, and I have chosen to believe that because Bram’s evidence supports it and because the alternative is unliveable.

He sees the children half the week and he has never once been late. I will say that for him and then nothing else.

Sasha and Bram divorced in the spring. She is in a flat in Thornby. My parents see her and I do not ask about it.
