“This is ridiculous.”

He grabbed his beer.

“You’re all acting like I beat her.”

David’s face hardened again.

“No one said that.”

“Then stop acting like I’m some monster.”

“Richard.”

He looked at me.

“You took something private from our bathroom.”

“You brought it downstairs.”

“You showed your friends.”

“That does not undo it.”

Nobody defended him.

He became even angrier.

“Fine.”

He threw both hands up.

“Everybody leave.”

David stared at him.

Richard repeated,

“I said leave.”

People started standing.

Awkwardly.

Shoes.

Jackets.

Empty bottles.

Nobody argued.

David remained.
