Then asked,
“Donate?”
“Probably expired.”
He checked.
“Do these expire?”
“I have no idea.”
We laughed.
Real laughter.
The kind that does not leave one person smaller.
Then Richard said,
“I’m sorry.”
I looked at him.
“For what?”
“You know.”
I did.
Even all those years later.
I nodded.
“I know.”
He handed the package back.
Then kissed my cheek.
I threw it away.
