My Husband Forced Our 18-Year-Old Daughter to Leave While I Was Away — One Year Later, She Returned Carrying a Newborn

I grabbed my phone.

Called Sarah.

Straight to voicemail.

Again.

Voicemail.

I called her best friend, Mia.

No answer.

Then another friend.

Another.

Nobody knew.

Or nobody told me.

I went to my purse.

Kevin said,

“Where are you going?”

“To find her.”

He rolled his eyes.

“This is exactly why she’s spoiled.”

I turned.

“I want you to tell me what happened.”

His jaw tightened.

“I told her to leave.”

“Why?”

“She was disrespectful.”

“What did she do?”

He looked away.

“What did she do, Kevin?”

“She accused me of something.”

My skin prickled.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“What did she accuse you of?”

His face hardened.

“Stop interrogating me.”

That was the end of the conversation.

Not because I accepted it.

Because he refused to answer.

I drove around for four hours.

I checked Mia’s house.
