Marcus practiced family and estate litigation.
That combination mattered.
At our first meeting, I gave him the divorce papers.
At the second, I brought Edwin’s trust.
Marcus read the document once.
Then stopped.
Read the occupancy provisions again.
Then looked at me.
“Does Vivian know?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Does Nolan?”
“No.”
“Who is the trustee?”
“A corporate trust company.”
He nodded.
“Good.”
Then he read the letter.
He was quiet afterward.
Finally he said:
“Claire, I need you to understand something.”
“What?”
“This house is not a divorce asset.”
“I know.”
“No.”
“I mean Nolan cannot bargain it away.”
