I knew what was inside.
Birth registration.
Name.
Parent information.
I looked at the blank line.
Child’s given name.
My hand tightened around the blanket.
We had chosen Caleb three months earlier.
The name was ordinary enough.
Solid.
I had suggested it after seeing it in an old book.
Nolan liked it immediately.
“Caleb Bennett.”
He had said it slowly across our kitchen table.
Then smiled.
“That sounds right.”
We never considered another name after that.
